The ACU Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education is to empower students to become capable and responsive educators of health professionals. Students will be supported in the learning of foundational theories, models and perspectives of learning and teaching with an emphasis on learning and practice development in workplaces. Students will explore the importance of constructive alignment in curriculum development, assessment strategies and evaluation of programs. The focus of this course will be to advance evidence-based learning and teaching activities and programs, coordinate collaboration among the health professions, and provide high quality learning experiences with the overall intention of enhancing safe and quality patient care. Contemporary Issues in Health Professional Education and Leadership

This subject allows teachers in higher education to advance their understanding of contemporary assessment practice by a critical engagement with contemporary assessment literature. From this foundation, students have the opportunity to examine how assessment is woven into the teaching and learning cycle and design and develop assessment instruments appropriate to Higher Education.

Principles and Practices of Assessment and Evaluation

This subject considers the knowledge and skills required to facilitate engaging learning experiences within applied learning settings. In the unit, you will examine the theoretical underpinnings of learner and teacher engagement in a range of contexts, including face-to-face and online, and develop and evaluate techniques aimed at increasing levels of engagement. Through practical assessment tasks, you will develop your facilitation skills and explore ways to increase participation of learners. In this subject, you will consider how educators can foster an environment where learners become increasingly responsible and self-directed in their own applied learning setting.This subject suits individuals with some experience in working with learners (e.g. practicing teachers, trainers, classroom aides, or industry people who have worked with apprentices) who are interested in exploring issues of student disengagement, drawing on theories of how and why students might be engaged and then trialing new facilitation approaches that target student engagement.Note: The third assessment task requires facilitation of a session with a class or small group of learners, so you will need to have access to a group to do this.
