This course covers the theory and practice of social media usage to take advantage of the opportunities of social media while navigating the risks that come with communicating on a global scale. Students learn the practices of ethical social media use and how to identify and manage the potential legal hazards. Through case studies the students will understand how organisational risks can lead to audience outrage, brand damage, litigation, and crises. Stakeholder theory and risk analysis tools will be used to teach how to anticipate, identify, address and balance opportunities and risks through social media strategy. Students learn to distinguish between personal and professional social media use and to work within their organisations&#39; social media policies when engaging online.

Social Media for Global Communications

This course provides students with foundational skills and knowledge of communications theory and practice, including a range of interpersonal, group and mass communication theories for understanding this integral element of society as well as a range of written, oral, non-verbal and multimedia communication skills.

This subject is designed to give you a substantive understanding of major theories, concepts and principles and current issues of organisational communication with a focus on practical application in the workplace environment. You will develop an understanding of how an organisation&#39;s culture its ethos, mission, personnel, stakeholders and product shape its organisational practice.The subject emphasises organisational culture and networks, the politics of power, identity and diversity issues, negotiation strategies, ethical and legal issues for communication professionals.
